The Adamantine Forge is one of the most rewarding locations to discover in Baldur's Gate 3. Located deep within Grymforge in the Underdark, operating this massive structure allows players to craft exceptionally powerful gear for Act 1. Understanding the exact sequence of steps required to operate the forge ensures you do not waste precious resources or struggle during the process.

Gathering the Required Moulds and Mithral Ore

Before you can craft any equipment, you must search Grymforge for weapon or armor moulds and raw Mithral Ore. There are six total moulds scattered throughout the area, alongside two distinct Mithral veins that can be mined. Having these materials ready in your inventory is essential before activating the central forge mechanism.

Preparing the Forge Chamber for Activation

Once you reach the central forge platform, step onto the main structure and approach the central components. You must interact with the Mould Chamber to insert your desired mould, such as the scale mail or splint armour mould. Next, interact with the Crucible in the center of the platform to place your piece of Mithral Ore.

Operating the Levers and Handling the Lava Valve

After inserting both components, head over to the Forge Lever and pull it to lower the platform into the lower basin. Next, approach the Lava Valve and turn it to flood the chamber with molten magma. Be prepared for combat immediately after, as releasing the lava triggers the arrival of Grym, the legendary construct guarding the forge.

Defeating Grym and Collecting Your Crafted Item

To defeat Grym, keep him standing in the flowing lava to ensure he maintains the Superheated condition necessary to take damage. Lure him directly onto the central anvil and pull the Forge Lever to slam the massive hammer down onto him for massive bludgeoning damage. Once the fight is over, pull the Forge Lever once more to finish forging and retrieve your brand-new item from the Crucible.
